It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, George Malcolmson, on April 7, 2026, at the age of 82.
He will be lovingly remembered by Jane, daughter Kelly and son Andrew (Nicole), grandchildren; Cam Penner (Lindsay), Julia, Zach, Pierce, Estelle, Clark and Marveille Malcolmson, sisters Susan, Janet and Penny, his favourite cousins Karen, Judy and Linda, the Owen family, close friend Bonnie and many friends and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Phyllis and sister Barbara.
He was born and raised in Carman and moved to PEI after high school for a 3-year stint in the RCAF. After returning to Manitoba, George married Jane and started working at MTS in 1966.
Bright and hard-working, he loved technology, new challenges and moving to new places.
He moved his young family throughout Manitoba but especially enjoyed the north and its friendly people. He left Thompson in 1985 and spent the remainder of his career working in Morden, Portage and Winnipeg before retiring in 1997. While working at MTS he rarely missed a day of work and was well-respected for his work ethic and kindness.
Post leaving MTS he continued to support the community for several more years doing a wide range of driving jobs; school bus, trucking and transport for Manitoba Blood Services.
He was the family cook at a time when men rarely were. His holiday dinners were legendary; planning and cooking for our large extended family was one of his great pleasures, particularly in commercial kitchens like the Carman golf course.
George was also a lifelong golfer, an involved member of the community and a painter, honing his craft in his later years and creating the most beautiful pictures. He spent several winters in Qualicum Beach, B.C and enjoyed the green winters and extended golf season.
He loved watching his grandson Cam play football and was a regular at the St Vital Mustangs field, as well as tracking the camping, dancing and traveling escapades of his grandchildren in the U.S.
He continued to love moving well into his 70's. He moved back and forth from Carman to Winnipeg before returning to Carman in January. Unfortunately, his health took a rapid downturn and he was not able to spend his last years in Carman as he planned.
Thank you to the compassionate staff at Carman Hospital who cared for our Dad in his final weeks with kindness and good humour.
A celebration of his life will be held May 7 at 2:00 at the Carman Legion 28 - 1st St NW, Carman.
If friends so desire, they may make a memorial donation to War Amps Canada or a charity of their choice.
